ABOUT
WHO WE ARE
UNT SEA is an official student organization at the University of North Texas and was first established during the Spring semester of 2019. A group of students who previously attended the university felt that there wasn't enough representation for their east african roots so they came together to create a space that would fully represent the vibrant history and culture of East Africa.

SEA embodies the following east african countries:
-
Ethiopia
-
Eritrea
-
Somalia
-
Uganda
*Students do not need to have ties to these countries to participate or be a member of SEA*

SEA PROGRAMS
Executive Board
Various officer positions are available for students to apply for at the end of each school year. These leadership positions are the driving force behind keeping SEA an active student chapter each year.
Ambassador Program
Our ambassador program allows for students to be more deeply engaged with the organization. Ambassadors have their own separate bonding events and get to shadow the executive members to gain experience on how to run an organization.
Mentorship Program
This program was created to help new UNT students adjust to the college campus life. Each mentee that applies for this program is paired with an Exec Board member to gain guidance and advice from. Mentees and their mentors also have their own separate events.
Membership
To be a member of SEA, students need to pay a fee of $25 for a school year. Being a member means you get special perks, such as being a part of member only events, being the first to know about any SEA news, and being included in the SEA groupchat. All members also have a chance to purchase a shirt.

CAUSES WE SUPPORT
Each semester, SEA chooses a certain cause to support. In light of current events, we have chosen to focus on the BLM movement and are partnering with Metro Atlanta Mutual Aid Fund for the Fall semester. For Spring 2021, we are working with an east african focused cause, Asante Africa Foundation.

SEA also supports it's local community through participating in volunteer opportunities year round.
